The Atlanta Falcons (3-2) will take the national stage once again in back-to-back prime-time appearances, this time travelling to the West Coast for a Sunday Night Football showdown against the San Francisco 49ers (4-2) in Week 7.
Atlanta is coming off a statement performance under the lights on Monday Night Football, where they handled the Buffalo Bills 24-14. The Falcons dominated on both sides of the ball, Josh Allen was intercepted twice and went down for four sacks as the defense turned up the heat all night long.
Meanwhile, things continue to spiral for the 49ers on the injury front. As if losing several key starters wasn’t enough, the team suffered yet another blow when star linebacker Fred Warner went down with a season-ending ankle injury. At this point, it feels like misfortune has set up permanent residence in the San Francisco locker room.

Team news & squadsSan Francisco 49ers team news
For the second year in a row, the injury bug has absolutely ravaged the San Francisco 49ers. Brock Purdy has already missed four of the team’s first six games, including the last two straight, while George Kittle hasn’t suited up since Week 1. Brandon Aiyuk hasn’t played a single snap all season, and on the defensive side, both Nick Bosa and Fred Warner are done for the year. Even with all those setbacks, the Niners have somehow managed to cling to a share of first place in the NFC West, which speaks volumes about the depth and resilience of Kyle Shanahan’s squad.
However, the cracks are beginning to show. San Francisco has now dropped two of its last three contests, including a 30-19 defeat at the hands of the Buccaneers on Sunday. The defense surrendered a season-worst 30 points in that matchup, and losing Warner early in the first quarter only magnified their problems on that side of the ball.

Atlanta Falcons team news
The Atlanta Falcons are coming off an impressive 24-14 win at home on Monday night against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. That victory moved them to 3-2 on the year, just a single game back of Tampa Bay in the NFC South standings. First-year full-time starter Michael Penix Jr. has had some ups and downs, but Monday’s performance might be the spark he needs to settle in.Â
It certainly doesn’t hurt having Bijan Robinson as his go-to weapon in the backfield. The dynamic playmaker is averaging over 21 touches and more than 165 yards from scrimmage per outing, giving Atlanta a legitimate offensive engine every week.

49ers vs Falcons Fantasy Football
The 49ers are entering Week 7 with cautious optimism that Brock Purdy will finally make his return. The third-year quarterback has started ramping up his workload, taking part in individual drills and officially being labeled “day-to-day” in his recovery. A nagging turf toe injury has limited Purdy to just two outings this season, solid, if unspectacular, efforts where he finished as QB16 both times (16.8 and 17.7 fantasy points vs. the Seahawks and Jaguars). If he’s back under center Sunday night, pencil him in right around that high-end QB2 range once again.
As for Christian McCaffrey, his Week 6 performance was a perfect snapshot of his 2025 campaign, efficient, relentless, but not quite explosive. He handled 17 carries for 54 yards (3.2 YPC) and finally punched in his first rushing touchdown of the season. While the passing attack around him remains a work in progress, McCaffrey’s usage is elite enough to keep him locked in as a front-line RB1 every single week.
Meanwhile, Jauan Jennings continues to battle through a laundry list of injuries — ankle, shoulder, and, according to him, five fractured ribs. Whether that’s bravado or reality, it’s clear he’s been laboring. Jennings caught just one of three targets for seven yards last week and has topped 24 yards only once this season. His target share has cratered from 26.5% to 16.5%, and until he’s fully healthy, fantasy managers should treat him as nothing more than a deep-league WR5/FLEX dart throw. Something’s just not clicking.
On the opposite sideline, Michael Penix Jr. is riding a mini surge, posting season-best efficiency marks of 12.0 and 7.8 yards per attempt over the last two weeks. Still, the Falcons’ offense has kept him firmly in QB2 territory — he’s logged just one QB1-level performance this year, and that required a rushing touchdown. Penix currently ranks QB29 in fantasy points per game (13.3) and QB25 in expected points (15.4). Atlanta’s run-first mentality continues to cap his ceiling, though facing a 49ers defense without Nick Bosa and Fred Warner offers a glimmer of upside this week.
And speaking of Atlanta’s offense, Bijan Robinson is quickly becoming an unstoppable force. With San Francisco’s front seven gutted, Robinson could feast — he’s the Falcons’ version of McCaffrey, only more explosive and less predictable. Expect another headline performance from the rising superstar.
Finally, Drake London reminded everyone why he’s one of the NFL’s most dangerous young receivers. On Monday night, he was nothing short of unguardable — pulling in 10 of 16 targets for 158 yards and a touchdown in a performance that screamed dominance.
49ers vs Falcons Game Predictions
Atlanta looks like a team trending upward, while San Francisco is clearly reeling under the weight of a growing injury list. With the 49ers leaning heavily on their passing attack and now missing key playmakers, this matchup could spell trouble against a Falcons defense that currently ranks as the best in the league against the pass.
Considering the circumstances and the momentum Atlanta brings into this one, coupled with the injury woes on the San Francisco sideline, backing the Falcons to cover the spread and win comfortably feels like the smart play.
