Re “Lawmakers to probe Hegseth boat strike order” (Nov. 30): Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordering the military to kill the two survivors from an attack on their small craft in the Caribbean Sea is absolutely chilling! That is the same thing or worse than killing POWs, which is clearly illegal, as stated in the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
America did not operate this way before Donald Trump, and we should not be silent about this outrage. Killing those two survivors after destroying their small craft is outright murder. Hegseth gave an unlawful order, and, unfortunately, people in the military obeyed it.
Didn’t we learn anything after World War II? Atrocities are not condoned if those responsible claim, “I was just following orders.”
