Interstate 5 was closed in both directions at Del Mar Heights Friday due to police activity, which was creating hours-long delays on the major thoroughfare.

Video from SkyRanger 7 showed miles and miles of traffic on northbound Interstate 5, which had been closed since 11:30 a.m. when the police activity began.

Just before 4 p.m., southbound lanes were also closed. At least one lane briefly reopened before 5 p.m., but traffic remained at a crawl at 6 p.m.

The incident prompted a SigAlert during the evening commute.
