(FOX 5/KUSI) — Traffic on I-5 and surrounding streets along the central San Diego County coastline was snarled for several hours on Friday afternoon as police dealt with an incident where the interstate meets Del Mar Heights Road.

The southbound lanes reopened around 8:10 p.m. after a suspect involved in the incident was taken into custody, according to the San Diego Police Department. The northbound lanes are still closed.

All northbound lanes of I-5 were closed starting before noon, with a full closure of both directions coming shortly after 4 p.m.

Traffic applications at times showed a drive of up to two hours to get from central San Diego to Oceanside, a distance that is normally driven in under an hour.
