An oil spill was reported in an oil field near San Ardo in South Monterey County on Friday morning, according to a report handed to the California Office of Emergency Services. At least 130 barrels (four barrels of oil and 126 barrels of produced water) were released at 6:30 a.m. from an eight-inch group line pipe, per California Resources, which called on behalf of field operator Aera Energy LLC.A barrel is equal to 42 gallons of liquid. Produced water is a mixture of water, oil and minerals naturally found during oil extraction. The location of the spill is off Sargent Canyon Road. The pipe is at ground level, but it is unknown what caused the release. The pipe flow of the pipe has been stopped, as has the release. No waterways have been impacted, per the reporting party.”The release material has impacted the surrounding dirt/soil. The release is stopped and contained to the immediate area.
