An argument ended in a driver striking and killing a pedestrian before fleeing early Sunday, Dec. 7, in Long Beach, according to police.

Officers arrived around 1:50 a.m. and found Samuel Ocegueda, 28, of Long Beach, unconscious in the 1700 block of Newport Avenue after a driver hit him with his vehicle on purpose and drove away, according to a  Long Beach Police Department statement.

Paramedics provided medical care, but Ocegueda died at the scene, police said.

Investigators believe Ocegueda and Isai Solis, 28, of Lynwood got in an argument before Solis struck Ocegueda with his dark-colored sedan while he was crossing Newport outside of the crosswalk, police said.

Solis fled in his vehicle southbound on Newport and westbound on Wilton Street, police said.

Police arrested Solis on suspicion of murder in the 12400 block of Santa Fe Avenue in Lynwood. His bail was set at $2 million.

Police ask anyone with information about the crash to call detectives at 562-570-7244 or leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-222-TIPS.
