Winter Blues
I once feared the cold
I shuttered at the thought
Of the thought of loneliness
How would I get through
The winder blues
I would ask?
During summer months,
I have the summer to keep me warm
The sun alone keeps me
Company
What would I do?
What could I look forward to?
See, I live by the Sea
And my neighbors
Leave for the City
Leaving me alone
In Silence
Isolation
With winter approaching
I realized there’s Brooklyn
And opportunity to see lights
People
Diversity
They say many don’t cross the bridge
But I did
Across the bridge
Is where people meet
And listen to great beats
We dress up
And dance from Ten to Sunrise
Making winter a treat
Winter once was a time
Where I shuttered in
Engaging in crafts
And reading
Is now a time
I celebrate
I love to dance
I love to sing
The cold that once shook my bones
Now shakes
As I move around
And leave my town
For lights and people
And an opportunity to
Talk
See and Listen
Summer to winter
Long beach to Brooklyn
I now love the transition.
Each night a theme
To prepare and wear for
The ability
To get out of this box
This studio that I live in
To see the world
And all its’ colors
Creativity
Ringing
Bringing people together
An opportunity to overcome weather
Short skirts
Cropped tops
Scandalous outfits
One can be demure
Or whatever they want to be
As in Brooklyn
Expression of freedom
Is a thing
The ability to express
Through clothes
Spirit
And Dress
It is a wonderful experience
I usually am
The first to dance
And the last to leave
For I travel and believe
In making the most out of my time
When I spend a pretty dime
I have met many people during my travels
Those with a creative spirit like me
The brick and mortar
Of surrounding buildings
Covered in art and graffiti
Is a place I call home
I now look forward to winter months
I don’t need to spend money on a lavish vacation
I can take the train to woodside
Which is a hop and skip away
From what I call paradise.
See the cold is only a season
And season’s bring change
Leaves dry
Snow falls
People dress in jackets and boots
Covering their toes and fingers
Protecting their skin from the wind
But once inside
The layers come off
Breathing sunlight
For the lights of the room
And the music playing
Brings heat
Beneath our feet
We sing
We hum
We clap
There’s something uniquely special about Brooklyn
A place where one feels free
To be whatever they want to be
They could be a he
They could be a she
We can be whatever we want to be
A place of inclusion
Away from judgement and seclusion
Brooklyn is a borough
Like no other
A borough built on grit, strength and perseverance
Where people get together
To sing & dance
Long Beach is nice in the summer
But Brooklyn is better in the winter.
