Shohei Ohtani has reached another milestone. But this time it’s in the sports collectibles market. Bidding for Ohtani’s 2025 Topps Chrome Gold Logoman 1/1 has surpassed $1.14 million, including buyer’s premium, less than 24 hours after the card opened for auction. The sale is on track to become the most expensive Shohei Ohtani card ever sold at public auction, with bidding open through Dec. 18.

The card headlines Lot No. 1 in Fanatics Collect’s December Premier Auction. As of today, bidding has reached $1.05 million across 46 bids. With the 20% buyer’s premium applied, the total exceeds $1.26 million!

A new high for Ohtani cards

If the price holds, the Gold Logoman will surpass the previous public record for an Ohtani card: $1,067,500 for the 2024 Topps Dynasty Black Logoman 1/1, which sold at Heritage Auctions in March.

The card is also positioned to become the most expensive ultra-modern baseball card ever sold at public auction, eclipsing the $1.1 million paid for Paul Skenes’ Rookie Debut Patch Autograph earlier this year.

The Gold Logoman Program

The card is part of a broader collaboration between Topps, Fanatics, and Major League Baseball, centered on Gold MLB silhouette patches. These patches were taken from jerseys worn during the 2025 season by league award winners, including MVPs, Cy Young recipients, and Rookies of the Year.

Fanatics authenticated the jerseys and designated 10 from each player for use in future Gold Logoman card releases, making them among the most limited modern inserts ever produced. The patch featured in Ohtani’s card was worn on April 29 against the Miami Marlins. In that game, Ohtani went 1-for-4 at the plate and hit his seventh home run of the season.

Collector interest

In addition to solo Gold Logomans, dual-patch versions have generated strong collector demand. Highly anticipated pairings include Ohtani alongside American League MVP Aaron Judge.

Recent sales reflect the new interest. A Dual Gold Logoman card featuring Cy Young winners, Chris Sale and Tarik Skubal, sold for $21,960 at Goldin in September.

Beyond baseball

Topps and Fanatics have expanded the Gold Logoman concept beyond baseball. The program was extended to the NBA following Fanatics’ acquisition of exclusive trading card rights for the league in October. So fans will have another new collector obsession coming soon.
