SobreMesa, a new Mexican-Latin American restaurant, will open Friday in the former Pioneer BBQ space in the Lake Murray area of San Diego.

SobreMesa is the fourth restaurant opened in the past two years by San Diego restaurateur Andrea Carbonaro.

The newly remodeled, 130-seat restaurant’s menu was created by Oscar Torres, who is the executive chef at Javier Plascencia’s Michelin-starred restaurant Animalón restaurant in Mexico’s Valle de Guadalupe.

Appetizers include pork belly salpicón (salad), roasted oysters and Brussels sprouts with smoked paprika aioli. There are shareable plates featuring shrimp, seafood, chicken and rib eye steak. A variety of fresh seafood dishes, including aguachiles and ceviche, raw clams and oysters and trout with tiger’s milk (a spicy Peruvian citrus marinade). There are seafood tostadas, an Ensenada-style fish taco, octopus burrito and pork, shrimp and cauliflower tacos. And a few desserts.

The restaurant’s beverage menu, featuring cocktails, wine, beer and sake, was created by Rhamsses Diaz-Santiago. Carbonaro is the founder of Carbonaro Holding Group, which has three other local restaurants, Aromi Italian Cuisine in La Mesa, Trattoria Da Sofia in Kensington and Carbonaro’s near SDSU.

SobreMesa is a family venture co-owned by brothers Andrea and Dario Carbonara and cousins Mariano Ligo and Francesco Mancino.
