An Irvine businessman said Thursday he was ambushed and held at gun point inside a parking garage this week as thieves took his luxury watch.
The man, who declined to be identified for safety reasons, said he left work at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and walked toward his car in his designated spot.
As he was about to enter the vehicle, three men attacked him. And the 36-year-old said right before the attack, he saw a light-colored SUV nearby.
“I see the car is moving fast. I figure something’s fishy,” the man said. “I got so nervous, I could not find my lock button. They jumped out of the car, (with) two of them pointing the gun at me.”
Security camera footage from inside the parking garage on Main Street captured the three men, wearing hoodies, attacking him. One of them appeared to have a gun.
“They pulled me on the ground,” the businessman described. “The guy with the white hoodie was sitting on my face. He was screaming, ‘Shoot him. Shoot him. Shoot him,'”
The man said he also heard one of the thieves clocking the gun several times.
“I think I’m lucky to be alive,” he said.
The man said the robbers took off with his $600,000 Richard Mille watch, something he gifted himself and wore occasionally.
The businessman said he’s certain the thieves knew who he was and what they were doing,
“My car was running. A $300,000 car. They could have taken the car. They just came for the watch,” he said.
Irvine police confirmed the investigation, adding detectives collected evidence from the robbery, including fingerprints.
