SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

The summer X Games are confirmed to head to Sacramento after organizers pushed back their original date.

Visit Sacramento, the city’s tourism bureau, told KCRA 3 that the world-famous extreme sports competition will take place from June 26-28, bringing more than 100 athletes and a lineup of music performances in what the X Games calls the X Fest.

The games were originally supposed to take place this year at Cal Expo in August, but organizers postponed their event to work on launching their new league called the X Games League.

“Sacramento is proud to bring such a world-class event to both residents and tourists,” said Mike Testa, president & CEO of Visit Sacramento, in a Friday news release. “Hosting the first league event for X Games is not only an honor, but a testament to Sacramento’s investment in providing our community unforgettable experiences.”

The X Games are known for hosting competitions for extreme sports, such as BMX, motocross and skateboarding. But music is also a major component of the days-long festival, drawing in notable music acts.

This will be the first time the games will take place in Sacramento. When organizers first made the announcement in late 2024, it was meant to commemorate their 30th anniversary of hosting the event.

It is not yet known which athletes will compete, but the games plan to host a draft in Los Angeles on March 5. Well-renowned athletes such as Tony Hawk and Shaun White have previously competed in the games.

After Sacramento, Japan will host the X Games on July 4 and 5. X Games organizers said a championship event will follow afterward, but details on that have yet to be announced.

“The launch of the X Games League marks an exciting new chapter for the athletes and the fans,” said Jeremy Bloom, CEO of X Games, in a news release. “Sacramento and Japan are two places that elevate action sports with their energy, passion, and support. Starting the league in locations that consistently show up for the athletes creates the perfect foundation for what XGL is built to deliver — world-class competition, progression, and unforgettable experiences.”
