The sun broke out Friday afternoon in parts of the Valley for a short while, and we may see even more sunshine on Saturday. Will it be enough for Fresno to warm up into the 50’s for the first time in a couple of weeks? It’s possible, but we’ll go right back into cooler and cloudier weather by early next week.

This past week was a gloomy one… low clouds, fog, and chilly temperatures dominated the San Joaquin Valley. Madera went the whole week (through Friday, Dec. 13) without seeing a temperature outside of the 40’s. It’s been a week and a half since Fresno reported a high in the 50’s, or a low in the 30’s, but both cities could warm into the low 50’s Saturday afternoon. Models are showing decent clearing for most of the afternoon… only to cloud back up Saturday night. Some clearing is possible again Sunday afternoon.

If you’re DONE with all of this gloomy weather, you can escape to the sun and warmth easily: take a short drive to the Sierra Nevada! Both Oakhurst and Mariposa warmed into the middle 70’s on Friday, while Shaver Lake reached the upper 60’s. This weekend should be more of the same… so if you are craving warmer weather, all it takes is a short drive into the mountains.

We’ll start next week with more gloomy, chilly weather. But there are finally changes brewing.

A series of storms will impact us later next week. The first storm will mainly stay north of Merced, but could be enough to mix the fog out by the middle of next week. Another storm on Friday may bring showers a little further south, but it’s the storms that arrive after that that have the best chance of rain for them.
