A San Diego police officer was hospitalized after being struck by a car in Pacific Beach Saturday night, prompting an ongoing investigation and area closure.

SAN DIEGO — An on-duty San Diego Police officer was hit by a car in Pacific Beach Saturday night, according to San Diego Police. 

The officer was hit by a driver just before 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Thomas Avenue and Mission Boulevard. The officer was taken to a trauma center, San Diego Police say, but the officer’s condition is unknown at this time. 

Police are asking people to avoid the area while they investigate.
