A 40-year-old suspect was arrested for murder in connection with the shooting death of a man in Long Beach.
The suspect was identified as Freddie Lamont Key Jr., 40, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
On Oct. 23, police responded to a shooting at the railroad right-of-way near the 5300 block of Cherry Avenue around 9:45 p.m.
Officers found the victim, Dajuan Hunt, 39, with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics transported him to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
The shooter fled the scene before police arrived. Following an investigation, detectives identified Key as the primary suspect. Police also confirmed that both men were homeless at the time.
On Dec. 10, Key was located and arrested in the 2600 block of South Street in Long Beach. Further details, including a possible motive or how the suspect and victim were known to each other, were not released.
Key was booked for an outstanding warrant and then rebooked for murder. He remains in custody on $2 million bail.
Detectives have presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for filing consideration, the police department said.
