BAKERSFIELD,Calif. (KGET) — After years of remodeling, the newly-improved Stramler Park is now open to the public.
New benches, shade canopies and even ping pong was implemented into the renovated Stramler Park.
The park has a lot to offer and is located next to the Kern County Museum. The $5.5 million investment in the park and nearby facilities was celebrated at the ribbon cutting at the new pavilion.
“Today, we’re celebrating the kick off of Stramler Park improvements. A lot of investment here, as we have a metroplex, we have new volleyball court, new ping pong, new shade structures for the hot weather in the summer, we have corn hole, bocce ball and a half court, baseball basketball court and a volleyball court,” said Flores.
Available to book for larger group events, Stramler Park will offer wider amenities with it’s new seating areas and surrounding sports venues.
“It’s really a place for the community to come together, to recreate, to enjoy our facilities, and it’s part of the larger complex associated with Sam Lynn ballpark, Northwest Little League, the Museum and the BMX facility,” said Flores.
The park itself is only the first stage.
Further improvements are coming to the areas around the Kern County Museum.
“This project started design back in 2023 after the funding was approved by our board of supervisors. So, we’ve been under construction about a year. We still have more work to do throughout the complex. We’re not finished,” said Burns-Lusich.
Chief General Services Officer Michelle Burns-Lusich says the biggest improvements coming next are to the Sam Lynn Ballpark.
“We’re working currently on the new Sam Lynn ballpark, installing a shade screen out in the outfield that’s going to be helping the ball players during the evening games not to be blinded by the sun. And we’re also remodeling the locker rooms and the restrooms,” said Burns-Lusich.
Big improvements are coming for park lovers and athletes alike at this historic park.
