Footage captured overnight on December 13 shows a Geminid meteor shower streaking across the night sky over the San Francisco Bay Area.

Video recorded by Shreenivasan Manievannan from Lick Observatory shows both timelapse and real-time views of meteors flashing across the sky as Earth passed through the debris trail of asteroid 3200 Phaethon.

Space.com reported the Geminids were expected to peak overnight on December 13 and 14, with up to 150 meteors per hour possible under ideal viewing conditions, according to the American Meteor Society. Credit: Shreenivasan Manievannan via Storyful
