BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — One person died, and another was injured after a head-on crash on Highway 14 Sunday night.

The California Highway Patrol said on December 14, 2025, at around 9:28 p.m., officers were called to a reported two-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 14, north of Backus Road.

CHP said a male was driving a white Chevrolet Malibu in the number one lane of southbound Highway 14, north of Backus Road.

Another man was driving a blue Mercedes-Benz in the number one lane of northbound Highway14, north of Backus Road.

According to CHP, for an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevy made an unsafe turning movement to the left, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and travel across the dirt center median.

The Chevrolet entered the number one lane of northbound Highway 14, directly in the path of the Mercedes and a head-on crash happened.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu died from his injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz sustained moderate to major injuries.
