FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — With an increase in orders across the valley, Amazon is preparing its fleet to ensure your orders arrive on time.

FOX26 pulls back the curtain at a Fresno fulfillment center to see what’s going on behind the scenes.

Since Christmas is about two weeks away, for those last-minute shoppers, Amazon says you still have time to order.

“This building center will be delivering over 5 million products every single week, going into Christmas,” said Ken Dandy, a Senior Business Operations Manager.

After you press “order” on an item you’re purchasing from Amazon, it starts a lengthy shipping process.

In the 800,000-square-foot facility, there are over 22 miles of conveyor belts.

Dandy says it’s all hands on deck

“We hired over 800 seasonal employees. We also launched our sub-safety delivery station out of this building. And it’s really cool. The Fresno Metro has blown up over the like, quick to hours away delivery at your house. And this is the largest volume of any of the building centers in all of North America for sub-safety delivery,” said Dandy.

Artificial intelligence is playing its part in how quickly packages land on your steps.

“We have over 8,000 robots just alone on our inventory floor to get to execute. We have automated packing systems. We’ve improved the way that we’re sorting to get things out. And then for sure, our logistics operation is improving year over year,” said Dandy.

Even with AI assisting in the orders, this all would not be possible without the help of workers like Joseph White.

“We’re working for a lot of hours, and we spend a lot of time away from our family,” said White.

When asked about the latest someone can order their gifts, the company said it will have same-day shipping till the 23rd.
