BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — One person died after being struck by a truck-trailer on Highway 166 south of Maricopa.
The California Highway Patrol said on Monday, December 15, 2025, at around 4:19 p.m., the Bakersfield Communications Center received calls regarding an injury crash on Highway 166, east of Soda Lake Road.
CHP said a preliminary investigation found that a driver of a Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Highway 166, east of Soda Lake Road, with four people. The driver of the Honda came to a stop on the westbound shoulder, partially blocking the westbound lane of Highway 166.
According to CHP, the driver stopped to check the Honda’s right-side tires after hitting the right-side curb and embankment. As the driver tried to go back inside the vehicle, he was struck by a truck-trailer combination traveling westbound on Highway 166, according to CHP.
The driver of the Honda died.
The driver of the truck-tractor combination was not hurt. There were no injuries to the passengers of the Honda.
The westbound lane of Highway 166 was closed for about four hours for investigation and cleanup.
