FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A woman has died and a young girl is in the hospital in critical condition following a crash in Fresno County.

The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened at the intersection of Jefferson and Walnut avenues just after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers say the woman who was killed was driving a Honda Civic north on Walnut when she ran a stop sign and collided with a Chevy Tahoe traveling east on Jefferson.

Investigators say the girl, who was a passenger in the Civic, was not in a child’s car seat and was partially ejected.

She was taken to the hospital, where she is listed in critical condition. The woman driving the Civic was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man and two teenage boys who were in the Chevy Tahoe were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover.

It’s unclear if alcohol and or drugs are factors in this crash.

The intersection of Jefferson and Walnut is expected to be closed for at least the next two hours as the investigation continues.
