Sun Moon Studio has been heavily praised since its opening in 2024, earning its first Michelin star in June 2025. With just four tables, reservations at the West Oakland restaurant are rarer than gold. But if you can score a seat, chefs Sarah Cooper and Alan Hsu’s food is worth the trouble.
Sun Moon Studio doesn’t read as “Michelin-starred stuffiness.” It’s like an exciting after-hours dinner party at your friend’s restaurant. Cooper, Hsu, and their small-but-mighty team come out to introduce the dishes and talk about the drinks, with no pretentiousness at all, and other diners seemed to respect (and appreciate) the mellow approach.
As hinted, snagging a table will require patience, luck, and a solid knowledge of when reservations drop on OpenTable. Sun Moon Studio is open Thursday through Sunday, and reservations are available six weeks in advance at 12 p.m. PST. (We suggest setting an alarm.)
