Re “Prepare for a bump in your SDG&E bill in 2026” (Dec. 16): While SDG&E’s gluttony continues unabated as Gov. Newsom and his appointees to the CPUC do little about it, the San Diego City Council has the arrogance to call out the modest $36 average annual increase in electric bills and the $12 average increase in gas bills while having zero qualms about charging taxpayers over $500 per year for garbage collection — a service that taxpayers were already paying for with their property taxes.
But SDG&E is somehow equally or more responsible for “overburdening” San Diegans with its increases, according to council members — and some residents. Really? They elected Mayor Todd Gloria and the council members like Joe LaCava who have added the garbage fee and other new fees and taxes that are of much more substance than SDG&E’s increases.
Living in San Diego under such elected leaders is going to be very costly. Hope everyone is well-prepared.
