Re “The SDPD’s freeway fiasco” (Dec. 12): It seems to me that the proper response to someone threatening to jump onto a freeway should be to:1) Get the cushion into position.2) Tell the potential jumper to give up or be tranquilized.3) Welcome him/her back or tranquilize him/her and then pick the individual up or catch the individual with the cushion.4) Problem solved within five minutes after the cushion is in position.

After the recent, inexcusable delay caused by one individual threatening to jump onto Interstate 5, may I offer a simple solution? Call the zoo or animal control. Ask to have someone sent to the scene with a rifle and a tranquilizer dart.

This simple, safe solution would allow law enforcement to quickly and safely remove the individual from the bridge, minimizing the freeway disruption.
