BAKERSFIELD, CA – A Bakersfield man, Simranjit Singh Sekhon,  is in custody following a Ventura County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a rideshare passenger.

Sekhon, 35, was arrested on December 15 after detectives linked him to an incident involving a 21-year-old woman. According to officials, the victim was picked up in Thousand Oaks for a trip to Camarillo.

Investigators report that the victim was intoxicated and unable to care for herself during the ride. Rather than dropping her off at her destination, Sekhon is accused of driving the unconscious woman around Camarillo and sexually assaulting her. While authorities confirmed Sekhon was working as a rideshare driver at the time, they did not specify which platform or company he was using during the incident.

Sekhon was booked into a pre-trial detention facility on charges of rape of an unconscious victim. His bail was set at $500,000, and he was scheduled for a court appearance on December 17. The Sheriff’s Office noted that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Based on the circumstances of the case, detectives believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

They are asking anyone with information regarding Simranjit Singh Sekhon or similar encounters to contact Detective Mitchell Peterson at 805-384-4745 or via email at Michael.Loth@venturacounty.gov.
