A shocking video circulating on TikTok has people asking the same question: What actually happened at Hazie’s?
The now-viral clip shows a visibly intoxicated woman screaming at, lunging toward, and physically attacking staff at the upscale San Francisco restaurant before being forcibly removed — and the fallout has been swift.
The woman was later identified by the San Francisco Police Department as Shireen Afkari, a senior manager of growth marketing and retention at Strava, according to her now-deleted LinkedIn profile. After the video gained traction online, Strava confirmed that Afkari is no longer employed by the company.
“We are aware of an employee who exhibited extremely concerning off-hours behavior,” Strava said in a statement shared on Instagram. “We don’t condone violence of any kind and this does not reflect the standards we expect of our team. This past Monday, we made the decision to end the individual’s employment.”
What Led to the Confrontation at Hazie’s
According to bartender Miguel Marchese, the chaos began shortly after Afkari and a male companion arrived at the Hayes Valley restaurant around 9 p.m.
“The night was quite chaotic, the couple came in, they were requesting dinner service,” Marchese told KRON4.
Staff quickly became concerned about the pair’s level of intoxication. “Initially, the server verbalized to me that she could tell that her table was not only intoxicated, but perhaps on some other substances and they were giving her quite a rough time and being quite verbally abrasive with her,” he explained.
After management stepped in, cocktails were removed from the table and the couple was asked to leave.
“He retracts her cocktails from the table, because I just made them, he brings them back and he simply tells me, ‘they’ve had enough to drink, we shouldn’t serve them anymore,’” Marchese said. “And then later, it just kind of spiraled into chaos.”
What the Viral Video Shows
The footage begins with Afkari at the bar, yelling, swearing and slurring at staff members who repeatedly ask her to leave. She accuses employees of lying, mocks them and then lunges toward the person filming, striking the camera.
In another angle, Afkari appears to attack a male staff member, prompting shocked reactions from diners. A staff member eventually knocks her to the ground as she continues flailing and charging toward the dining area.
Even outside, the confrontation doesn’t stop. Afkari can be seen grabbing Marchese by the hair and refusing to let go.
“She wraps my hair around her hand and just pulls on it for dear life. It was quite painful,” he said.
Marchese ultimately freed himself by grabbing her phone and tossing it away. “Like throwing a bone at a dog that’s attacking you,” he explained.
Police eventually arrived, and Afkari was taken to San Francisco County Jail and booked for public intoxication.
For Marchese, the incident highlights a larger issue within the service industry.
“People who work in hospitality go through a lot,” he said. “I’ve been spat on, I’ve been slapped at a bar before, homophobic slurs, been sexualized by guests. It just happens and, you know, you gotta move on.”
What started as a night out has since become a viral cautionary tale — and a reminder that actions, even off the clock, can have very real consequences.
