BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An Uber driver, identified as a 35-year-old Bakersfield man, was charged after allegedly raping an unconscious woman in Ventura County.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said Simranjit Singh Sekhon of Bakersfield has been charged with rape of an unconscious person. He is also charged with the aggravating factor of the victim being particularly vulnerable.

On Wednesday, Sekhon made his first court appearance for arraignment and pleaded not guilty.

According to the Ventura County DA’s Office, Sekhon, an Uber driver, picked up the victim, identified as a 21-year-old woman, outside a Thousand Oaks bar on November 27, 2025, at around 1 a.m., to take her to her home in Camarillo.

The victim, who was intoxicated, fell asleep during the ride, according to the DA’s office.

According to a release, after the trip should have concluded, Sekhon allegedly continued driving the unconscious victim around Camarillo and sexually assaulted her.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case and arrested Sekhon in Los Angeles County on December 15, 2025. He faces charges of rape of an unconscious person.

Sekhon is scheduled for an early disposition conference on December 29, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ventura County Superior Court. He remains in custody with bail set at $500,000.
