BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Bakersfield man who works as an Uber driver was charged Wednesday with raping an unconscious passenger in Camarillo.

Simranjit Singh Sekhon, 35, picked up an intoxicated woman around 1 a.m. Nov. 27 outside a bar in Thousand Oaks, according to a release from Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

He was supposed to drive her home, prosecutors said, but instead kept driving after she fell asleep and sexually assaulted her. The woman lives in Camarillo.

An investigation led to Sekhon’s arrest Monday, and on Wednesday he pleaded not guilty.

Held on $500,000 bail, he’s due back in Ventura County Superior Court Dec. 29.
