The NHL’s holiday roster freeze kicks in on Friday, but there’s certainly a chance a couple of deals go down before hand, including from the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks.

There’s been multiple reports that the Blackhawks are trying to move goaltender Laurent Brossoit, who has worked his way back from injury, had a conditioning stint in the AHL, and is ready to return to NHL action on a full time basis. The Ducks are in the goalie market and have been linked to the Blackhawks on a potential deal.

Frank Seravalli: Re Laurent Brossoit: I wonder if…maybe say Anaheim for instance; Petr Mrazek has been hurt; does Brossoit make any sense for them for a team that can afford the financial hit – Oilers Now (12/15)

Brossoit, 32, carries a $3.3 million cap hit and doesn’t have any trade protection on his contract. He’s a pending unrestricted free agent, and can be moved at will, and that’s likely what he prefers at this point considering Spencer Knight is now ‘the guy’ in Chicago.

Brossoit has gone 2-1-0 in three appearances in the AHL, posting a .900 save percentage. His last NHL season was back in 2023-24 with the Winnipeg Jets, when he went 15-5-2, with a .927 SV.% and 2.00 GAA. If he’s capable of getting back to this type of production, he’s the perfect buy-low trade candidate at the moment.

The Ducks have the cap space, so there’s no issue there. It’s just they may have competition on the trade market. The Edmonton Oilers aren’t finished making moves to upgrade their crease, as they aren’t satisfied with Cal Pickard backing up Tristan Jarry.

Keep an eye on the Blackhawks, they are drawing a ton of interest at the moment, and Brossoit is dead smack in the middle of it all.
