SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A multimedia company has temporarily transformed a San Francisco gothic landmark into an immersive experience.
The new ticketed experience, known as “AURA,” has been set up at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral. The project uses “cutting-edge” projections, mapping, lasers and music to create an interactive experience that highlights the cathedral’s history, according to its creator and multimedia company, Moment Factory.
Rev. Malcom Clemens Young, the cathedral’s dean, said the project invites the community to see a beloved landmark in a “completely new light.”
This city is known for innovation and artistry, and bringing this experience here feels like the perfect way to celebrate both,” Young said in a statement. “From the moment the first notes echo through the cathedral, audiences will feel transported.”
AURA was first launched in Montreal in 2017, according to organizers, before being premiered in Paris. Now, it will transform Grace Cathedral into an “immersive odyssey,” according to organizers.
“This extraordinary canvas, with its soaring arches and rich history, offers a rare opportunity to craft moments of magic,” said Sakchin Bessette, Co-Founder and Executive Creative Director at Moment Factory. “Visitors will leave feeling inspired, with a profound sense of connection—to the cathedral and to one another.”
The experience lasts roughly 40 to 45 minutes, and visitors are encouraged to explore the cathedral.
The project, which is co-presented by the entertainment company Fever, opened to the public on Oct. 10. It is expected to last at least through the end of the year. Tickets can be found here.
Grace Cathedral is located at 1100 California St.
