Among San Diego State’s slogans in recent years is “Win22,” which references the quest for the program’s 22nd conference championship.

It has been a decade now since SDSU won back-to-back Mountain West titles in 2015-16. This is the team’s last chance for a MW crown before moving next year to the reconstituted Pac-12. The Aztecs were picked to finish eighth this season, but here they are at 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

“Obviously, sitting in an advantageous spot,” SDSU coach Sean Lewis said. “The guys have done great work with that, and realize, as we refocus here, that there’s still so much more to go.”

SDSU shares the conference lead with UNLV and Boise State. The Rebels and Broncos meet Saturday at 12:30 p.m. (FS1), so one of them will be handed a loss. SDSU and Fresno State do not play conference undefeated UNLV (6-0), which could be a factor in the conference race.

Here’s a glance at the six teams remaining on SDSU’s schedule.

Fresno State (5-2, 2-1)

When: Oct. 25, 12:30 pm. or 4 p.m. at Valley Children’s Stadium, Fresno

TV: Fox Sports 1

Notable: The Bulldogs were riding a five-game winning streak before getting blown out 49-21 last week by Colorado State (which lost to SDSU 45-24 a week earlier). Fresno State’s two MW victories against Hawaii (23-21) and Nevada (20-17) were by a total of five points.

Fresno State is just behind SDSU in scoring offense (30.7 to 29.3) and well behind the Aztecs in scoring defense (12.2 to 23.7). QB E.J. Warner (139-202, 1,486 yards, 10 TD/9 INT) has thrown more interceptions than any other quarterback in the conference. RB Bryson Donelson (85 carries, 405 yards, 3 TD) leads the run game. LB Jadon Pearson (59 tackles) has nearly twice as many tackles as anyone else on the team.

Last meeting: SDSU won 33-18 in 2023 at Snapdragon Stadium.

All-time series: SDSU leads 30-27-4.

Wyoming (3-3, 1-1)

When: Nov. 1, 4 p.m. at Snapdragon Stadium

TV: CBS Sports Network

Notable: The Cowboys are coming off a 35-28 win over San Jose State that ended a three-game losing streak against Utah (31-6), Colorado (37-20) and UNLV (31-17). It was an encouraging sign for a Wyoming offense that was averaging only 16.8 points a game. A defense allowing 22.3 ppg has carried the Cowboys.

A quarter of the completions by QB Kaden Anderson (107-192, 1,269 yards, 8 TD/5 INT) have gone to WR Chris Durr (28 catches, 318 yars, 3 TDs). Wyoming spreads the carries among three players, led by freshman Samuel “Tote” Harris (52 carries, 315 yards, TD). LB Brayden Johnson (37 tackles, 2 INT) and NT Ben Florentine (18 tackles, 4 sacks) are among the defensive leaders.

Last meeting: SDSU won 27-24 last year in Laramie, Wyo.

All-time series: Tied 19-19.

Hawaii (5-2, 2-1)

When: Nov. 8, 8 p.m. PT at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex, Honolulu

TV: CBS Sports Network

Notable: The Rainbow Warriors are a win away from bowl eligibility and a likely spot in the Hawaii Bowl. The season opened with a 23-20 win over Stanford. Hawaii has beaten Utah State (44-26) and Air Force (44-35) the past two games. A two-point loss to Fresno State (23-21) is the only reason Hawaii isn’t leading the Mountain West.

QB Micah Alejado (142-218, 1,456 yards, 9 TD/5 INT) has Hawaii second in the MW in passing yardage, making up for a rushing offense that ranks last (99 ypg) in the conference. WR Pofele Ashlock (46 catches, 468 yards, 6 TD) is the quarterback’s favorite target. DL Jackie Johnson leads the team in sacks (4.5).

Last meeting: SDSU won 27-24 last year at Snapdragon Stadium.

All-time series: SDSU leads 24-11-2.

Boise State (4-2, 2-0)

When: Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m. at Snapdragon Stadium

TV: CBS Sports Network

Notable: The Broncos played the most challenging non-conference schedule, which is where losses to South Florida (34-7) and Notre Dame (28-7) came. Their conference wins were over Air Force (49-37) and New Mexico (41-25). Boise State ranks fourth in the MW in scoring offense (33.7 ppg) and fifth in scoring defense (25.3 ppg), numbers skewed by the UCF and Notre Dame games.

QB Maddux Madsen (122-200, 1,570 yards, 11 TD/5 INT), the preseason MW Offensive Player of the Year, is the conference’s second-leading passer. RB Dylan Riley (71-494, 5 TD) leads the run game. DL Braxton Fely leads the Broncos with five sacks while tackle leader S Ty Benefield (44 tackles) and CB A’Marion McCoy have two interceptions apiece.

Last meeting: SDSU lost 56-24 last year in Boise, Idaho.

All-time series: Tied 4-4.

San Jose State (2-4, 1-1)

When: Nov. 22, time TBA at Snapdragon Stadium

TV: Fox platform

Notable: The Spartans have managed wins against Idaho (31-28) and New Mexico (35-28) this season. They’re lost to Wyoming and played late Friday at Utah State. San Jose State is ninth in the MW in both scoring offense (24 ppg) and scoring defense (29.2).

QB Walker Eget (143-231, 1,809 yards, 13 TD/3 INT) leads the Mountain West in passing with 301.5 yards a game. WR Danny Scudero (50 catches, 845 yards, 8 TDs) leads the conference — and the nation — in receiving yards. Vili Taufatofua has a team-high four sacks and Jalen Bainer a team-high three interceptions.

Last meeting: SDSU lost 24-13 in 2023 at San Jose.

All-time series: SDSU leads 24-20-2.

New Mexico (3-3, 0-2)

When: Nov. 28, 12:30 p.m. at University Stadium, Albuquerque

TV: CBS Sports Network

Notable: The Lobos opened the season with a loss to Michigan (17-34). Three straight wins followed, highlighted by a victory at UCLA (35-10). New Mexico opened conference play with losses to San Jose State (35-28) and Boise State (41-25).

QB Jack Layne (114-171, 1,277 yards, 8 TD/8 INT) leads the offense, with WR Keagan Johnson (31-364, 2 TD) his top target. DE Keyshawn James-Newby (4 1.2 sacks, 4 PBU) leads the defense.

Last meeting: SDSU lost 21-16 last year at Snapdragon Stadium.

All-time series: SDSU leads 29-15.
