As we headed into the season, one of things that stood out about the UCLA Bruins roster was the amount of reliable seniors. Those seniors were on full display on Saturday, with the Bruins mowing down Long State Beach 106-44.
UCLA doesn’t need Charlisse Leger-Walker to score a ton
The entire UCLA starting lineup is comprised of seniors, four of those five starters had double-digit points on Saturday. The lone exception was Charlisse Leger-Walker, who had just two points but still made an impact in the game, dishing out 10 assists and collecting two steals. Leger-Walker isn’t asked to score like she was at Washington State but she’s been able to play winning basketball and keep things on track for UCLA.
Gabriela Jaquez’s shooting jump has been huge for the Bruins
Gabriela Jaquez continued her terrific senior season, hitting five threes and scoring 17 points in Saturday’s win. As a junior, Jaquez shot a career-high 34.8% from three, that number has jumped to 54.2% so far this season. Shooting is exactly what UCLA needed this season and Jaquez has stepped up in a big way for the Bruins.

Saturday was the prototypical Kiki Rice game. She put up 15 points on 5-8 shooting, adding nine rebounds and seven assists. Rice would tack on a block and four steals, continuing her excellent all-around season. Rice isn’t the flashiest Bruin, but when Rice plays well, her team follows suit.
Good luck finishing around Lauren Betts in the paint
Lauren Betts did something for the first time as a college player on Saturday, take a three point attempt. The jumper didn’t fall, but Betts did hit a long two-point jumper but beyond her jump shooting, Betts put up 17 points with two blocks and three steals in her 24 minutes.
Gianna Kneepkens the rebound hunter
Gianna Kneepkens didn’t have her best game, shooting 4-10 from the field and 2-7 from three but she hit the glass, bringing down 10 rebounds to notch a double-double while notching two steals. Even when Kneepkens doesn’t have a great shooting game, her spacing will always benefit the Bruins offense.
