A firefighter suffered a minor injury on Sunday fighting a blaze that broke out in the deli kitchen of a two-story brick building in Long Beach around midday, authorities said.

The structure at 801 W. Beech St., which houses the Long Island Sandwich Company on the first floor and apartments on the second floor, burst into flames around noon, according to Nassau County’s assistant chief fire marshal, Andrew Schmitt Jr.

One firefighter injured his hand, but did not require hospitalization. He was treated at the scene, the fire marshal said in an email.

About 70 firefighters from Long Beach, Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Inwood, Baldwin and Oceanside took about 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which did not spread beyond the deli kitchen.

Nassau County fire marshals and detectives with the police department will investigate the cause of the fire.
