According to the California Highway Patrol, the state is cracking down on extreme speeding. Under a new California State Agency pilot, any CHP citation over 100 mph is automatically sent to the DMV for review.

After the review, instead of a ticket, drivers may also face a suspended license or have their license revoked. This is known as the “Fast” pilot program, which is already in effect. CHP said they are partnering with other state agencies to “hold negligent drivers accountable and to quickly remove them from our roads.”

The pilot is also expected to prevent future fatalities.

“Speeding causes nearly 1/3 of traffic deaths,” CHP said. “Slow down—lives depend on it!”
