BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The Wasco Police Department will conduct a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint on Saturday, Dec. 27, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city.

The checkpoint aims to enhance traffic safety by removing impaired drivers from the roads.

Authorities remind the public that impairment is not limited to alcohol; some medications and marijuana can also affect driving ability.

Driving under the influence is illegal, and first-time DUI arrests can lead to fines and penalties averaging $13,500, along with a suspended license.

The event is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
