FRENSO, Calif. (KFSN) — A jury has found Andrew Leon guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of his former girlfriend’s mother.

Leon had little reaction as the verdict was read and no family or friends were in the courtroom.

Jury deliberations lasted for less than a day.

The judge will sentence Leon on January 21, he faces up to life in prison.

In November of 2023, Huron police found 37-year-old April Diaz with gunshot wounds on a Huron road. She died at the scene.

The then 19-year-old Leon later turned himself in to authorities in Monterey County.

Leon said he had gone to Diaz’s home in Huron looking to speak with her daughter but Diaz refused to let him inside.

That’s when he opened fire, hitting Diaz 11 times, until his gun jammed.
