BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield police arrested 14 people on Tuesday, Dec. 23, in an Organized Retail Theft Unit operation at the Valley Plaza Mall.
Five of the suspects met the requirements for felony charges under Proposition 36. Several of the suspects contacted during the operation were found to have an alleged warrant for their arrest, said BPD.
Officers seized around 100 alleged stolen items, totaling more than $3,100. The items were returned to their businesses, such as Old Navy, Macy’s, JCPenney, Target, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, and Dollar Tree, which participated in the operation.

During the operation, several vehicles linked to the suspects were impounded, including one from which a driver allegedly tried to evade officers before being stopped.
