According to the department, one of the week’s key incidents involved a green Kawasaki dirt bike that had repeatedly evaded law enforcement for several weeks. With the help of air support, officers tracked the rider from San Leandro into Oakland, where the suspect eventually surrendered. Police say the individual was already on an ankle monitor and out on bail for a stolen vehicle case. The suspect was arrested, and the dirt bike was impounded.
In another case, RESET officers conducted a traffic stop involving a 2020 Audi. During the stop, officers discovered a loaded firearm and $23,700 in cash. The driver, who police said was a convicted felon, was taken into custody.
Officers also broke up a group of reckless riders spotted on International Boulevard in Oakland. Police said two dirt bikes and an ATV were seen driving dangerously through traffic. When the riders refused to stop, air support followed them to 84th Avenue, where RESET units moved in. One suspect fled but was caught with a loaded Glock handgun, another was detained on scene, and a third attempted to escape but was quickly apprehended. All three were arrested, and their vehicles were towed.
“Great teamwork between East Bay Regional Park District Police Department, Alameda County, the California Highway Patrol, and the San Leandro Police Department (our partnering agencies) keeping our streets and communities safe!” the department said in a statement.
