A 16-year-old girl was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Long Beach in which speed and distracted driving might have been contributing factors, authorities said Thursday.
The crash occurred about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday near Long Beach Boulevard and Wardlow Road, where the girl was a passenger in a 2007 Saturn driven by 17-year-old boy, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The Saturn and a 2021 Jeep Wrangler were both going southbound on Long Beach Boulevard, south of Wardlow, when the Saturn made a lane change and struck the Wrangler, police said.
The teenager was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, and the driver of the Wrangler — who was uninjured — remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Detectives were notified of the 16-year-old girl’s death on Wednesday.
