The San Francisco 49ers may not have gotten all the good injury news they wanted on their Week 7 injury report, but they are on track to get one major offensive weapon back when they host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football.

Tight end George Kittle, who has been on IR for virtually the entire season after injuring his hamstring in Week 1 vs. the Seattle Seahawks, is on track to return according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. He told reporters after Friday’s practice that Kittle and defensive tackle Kevin Givens are both expected to come off IR to face Atlanta.

Kittle was a limited participant in Wednesday and Thursday’s sessions before being upgraded to a full participant Friday. His return should provide a significant boost for a 49ers offense that is desperate for playmakers. His pass-catching ability will give the club more explosive play potential, but it’s his run blocking that they may be missing the most. The 49ers are last in the NFL averaging 3.1 yards per carry this season.

If Kittle’s return means the return of explosive run plays and a more consistently viable rushing attack, it will be a season-altering development for San Francisco.

There aren’t any surprises here. The 49ers would’ve loved to have Purdy and Pearsall back, but both will be out at least one more week.

QuestionableDT Kevin Givens (pectoral)CB Renardo Green (neck)CB Upton Stout (ankle)

Stout was a surprise addition to the injury report. He was a full participant Wednesday and Thursday, but landed as a non-participant Friday because of an ankle injury he suffered during Thursday’s session. The 49ers may have to dig deep into their defensive back depth chart if Green and Stout (both starters) are out. Darrell Luter would be next up if Green misses time at the spot opposite Deommodore Lenoir. Chase Lucas is the backup nickel if Stout can’t go.
