FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — As the country prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, we’re looking at some of the places that help keep the country’s spirit alive.

Christmas Tree Lane in Fresno celebrated its 103rd year this season.

The 2-mile stretch of lights on Van Ness Boulevard has become a world-renowned Christmas destination.

Homeowner Dean Alexander starts decorating for Christmas in October.

“It takes me almost eight weekends to get everything going, plus during the night to get everything set up,” said Aleander. “It’s almost 2,000 hours just at my house alone. And it’s just labor of love.”

His house on Van Ness Blvd. is known as the finale for Christmas Tree Lane.

“The kids just open and just smile. And the parents, they’re just enjoying it,” said Alexander.

It’s just how we share Christmas. It’s the spirit that carries on.

But the real magic happens after the sun sets.

What starts with a strand of lights turns into hundreds of homes decorated for Christmas and people lining up to catch a glimpse.

“I love the lights. I love everything that goes on. I don’t know how much work they put in,” said Christmas Tree Lane visitor Alex Guzman of Fresno. “I can see the smells in their faces whenever they see their kids like them. And that’s what’s in there I can love. I can always look at that and just smile at that.”
