EAST FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — A man has died after he and his vehicle were found underwater in a canal in East Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol confirms.
Between December 24 and 25, the victim’s family had reported him missing and used his cell phone signal to track his location to a canal near Herndon and Madsen Avenues.
CHP was called to the area and found evidence of a possible traffic collision. A dive team was requested and located the vehicle under 12 feet of water.
The vehicle was recovered with the victim’s body inside.
Officials say the driver’s seatbelt was fastened and airbags were deployed.
The victim has not been identified.
It is unknown if drugs and alcohol were a factor in the crash.
