The Bakersfield Police Department responded to both incidents, which disrupted the holiday festivities.

In one neighborhood near San Emidio and Elm streets, a resident described hearing “maybe seven gunshots back to back with a pop, pop, pop, pop, pop.”

A longtime resident, who has lived in the area for 46 years, recounted off-camera how a car crashed into her home shortly after the gunfire, tearing through a wall and dragging a cactus.

She believes the crash occurred as someone was being chased and shot at.

David Flores, another resident, said, “All the windows are shot out, and there’s bullet holes in the car,” adding, “That’s where the guy got shot.”
