San Francisco’s annual Fleet Week went on this past weekend, even without the high-flying antics of the Blue Angels.
While the government shutdown put a kibosh on a good amount of the usual programming, new thrills and variety were offered in return.
Perennial favorite United Airlines kicked off the show with its huge 777 performing maneuvers at seemingly building-grazing altitudes. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds also hit the Bay Area skies for the first time since 2017, reaching speeds of up to 474 mph in dozens of highly specialized formations, including ones very similar to the Angels’ previous performances.
Adding flair to the event, the Contra Costa County-based Patriots Jet Team showed off top-tier skills, leaving signature red, white and blue streaks in their wake. The Jack Aces P-51 Demo Team also came out for the event, wowing San Francisco crowds in three vintage Mustang flying machines.
Beyond casual spectators, the event is always a big draw for the Bay Area photo community. SFGATE reached out to a number of skilled photographers, asking if they would share their captures from the weekend event. Here is a selection of our favorite images.
