Rockslide forces section of Highway 41 to close, no timeline for reopening

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A section of Highway 41 that many Valley residents use to get to and from the Central Coast is now closed because of a rockslide.

The CHP in Coalinga shared this photo of the signs posted in Kings County.

The slide happened just over the San Luis Obispo County line and impacts a five-mile stretch of Highway 41 from Highway 33 to State Route 46.

Massive piles of rocks and debris cover the roadway.

A detour is in place, but it adds about half an hour of travel time.

The CHP advises drivers to take Highway 33 to State Route 46.

Crews are currently assessing the damage. It’s not yet known when 41 will reopen.
