Police in Los Angeles are asking for the public’s help in identifying a 2-year-old boy who was left behind in a vehicle following an attempted grand theft in Highland Park.
The toddler and a dog were found by the victim of the attempted grand theft Sunday morning. Officers were called to the 300 block of North Avenue 52 after a man tried to steal the victim’s vehicle then ran away.
According to the caller, both the child and dog were left behind in their vehicle. Now, the Department of Children and Family Services, which took custody of the boy, is seeking to identify the child.
“Efforts to identify the child through all available means have been unsuccessful, and no custodial parent or family member has contacted the police to locate the child,” police said in a statement. “The child is male, with a medium complexion and curly brown hair, and was wearing a light gray quarter-zip sweater.”
Law enforcement added that the toddler and dog appeared to be familiar with each other. The dog has since been taken under the care of Los Angeles County Animal Services.
Anyone who recognizes the child is urged to contact LAPD’s Northeast Division at 323-561-3211, or the DCFS Hotline at 1-800-540-4000. Anonymous tips can be made by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
