STAT TO NOTE
1.99 — Hoeing’s ERA since the Padres acquired him and LHP Tanner Scott for minor leaguers Robby Snelling, Graham Pauley, Adam Mazur and Jay Beshears, albeit over only 31⅔ innings. Hoeing had a 1.52 ERA in 23⅔ innings after the 2024 trade deadline, but spent most of 2025 either on the injured list or at Triple-A El Paso.

Down — Hoeing had big-league experience in both the rotation and the bullpen when he as acquired with four years of team control intact and he was initially employed with a great deal of success as a long man. Hoeing even appeared in three postseason games in 2024, but shoulder soreness cropped up the following spring and a shoulder strain ultimately sent Hoeing to the injured list on opening day instead of San Diego. The rehab path carried Hoeing from rookie ball to Double-A San Antonio to Triple-A El Paso before he ultimately returned to the majors with 1⅓ scoreless innings against the Nationals on June 23. All seven of Hoeing’s big-league appearances came over the next month as Hoeing was optioned back to Triple-A El Paso as part of a pitching staff shuffle that saw him and RHP Alek Jacob returned to the minors and RHP Stephen Kolek and LHP Kyle Hart called up. Hoeing never returned to the majors and even missed more than three weeks in the minors with a lower-body injury before finishing his stay with El Paso with a 4.70 ERA over 15⅓ innings.
2026 OUTLOOK
The Padres didn’t need Hoeing after they acquired Mason Miller or even after Jason Adam’s season-ending quad injury. Hoeing hasn’t started a game since making two starts for the Marlins in 2024, so chances are — especially after an injury-plagued season — he’ll again serve as a long-man option out of the Padres’ bullpen. He’s got an option left, so Hoeing could also be an arm that moves between Triple-A El Paso and the majors in 2026.
