Merced's Applegate Zoo to be temporarily closed for renovations

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) — The Merced Applegate Park Zoo will close its doors to the public this week.

It’ll be temporary so crews can start work on several long-awaited improvements.

The shutdown starts January 1 and runs through April 2.

City leaders say this will allow for the safe construction of a brand-new black bear exhibit.

When the work is finished, visitors can also enjoy improved walking paths and an upgraded gift shop entrance.

Zoo officials say the upgrades are an investment in a better experience for animals, guests, and the Merced community.
