The Los Angeles Dodgers have aggressively built up the bullpen this offseason.
The Dodgers had the 28th-ranked bullpen ERA in baseball in 2025 at 4.86 and responded by signing All-Star closer Edwin DÃaz to a three-year, $69 million deal. Los Angeles was aggressive last offseason, too; the investments didn’t pay off.
The Dodgers signed All-Star hurlers Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates, but neither move worked out, and they won the World Series despite the signings.
Yates, who logged a 5.23 ERA in 50 outings, and Scott had a 4.74 ERA in 61 appearances, joined the team on a one-year deal, and his stay was predictably short-lived.
On Tuesday, Ari Alexander of WHDH-TV in Boston reported that Yates and the crosstown rival Los Angeles Angels agreed on a one-year deal in free agency.

“Source: RHP Kirby Yates and the Angels are in agreement on a 1-year deal, pending physical,” Alexander wrote on X on Tuesday.
Longtime MLB insider Jon Heyman confirmed the agreement, adding Yates’ deal with the Halos is reportedly worth $5 million.
Yates is an 11-year big league veteran with a career 3.36 ERA and two All-Star nods under his belt. Yates struggled as a member of the Dodgers, but was lights-out the year before as a member of the Texas Rangers. Yates logged a 1.17 ERA in 61 appearances in 2024 and earned his second All-Star nod.
At the time, the Dodgers seemingly made a good move on paper, bringing the righty to town, but things didn’t work out.
