Jack Tovani had 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists to lead Aptos High’s boys basketball team, but the Mariners fell 67-53 to Willow Glen in the semifinals of the 12th annual Aptos High/Santa Cruz Warriors NorCal Invitational at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Tuesday.

Cade Bogle had nine points and eight rebounds for the Mariners (3-7 overall). Levi Race scored seven points, and Quinn Billings had six points and two rebounds.

On Wednesday at KP Arena, Aptos plays Half Moon Bay (4-5) for third place at 12:30 p.m., and Pioneer (9-1) faces Willow Glen (8-1) in a battle of San Jose schools to decide the tournament champion at 2 p.m.

Los Gatos 45, Soquel 37: Senior Miles Johnson scored a team-high 13 points for the Knights, who came up short in the consolation semifinals at the 12th annual Aptos High/Santa Cruz Warriors NorCal Invitational at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Tuesday.

Chase Petersen and Liam Wennstrom each chipped in with six points for the Knights (7-5).

Senior forward Will Campbell scored 12 points for the Wildcats (9-2). Senior forward Dionysis Maroudas, the MVP of the 69th annual Emmett Thompson Memorial Dad’s Club Tournament after leading the Wildcats to the title on Dec. 6, scored 11 points. Senior forward Zach Otoupal added nine points.

On Wednesday at KP Arena, Soquel plays Wilcox (1-7) for seventh place at 9:30 a.m., and Los Gatos faces St. Mary’s (6-6) of Stockton in the consolation championship at 11 a.m.

Santa Cruz 56, Burbank 54: The Cardinals won their finale at the Damian Lillard Classic at Oakland High on Tuesday in dramatic fashion.

Santa Cruz got off to a fast start and led 21-9 after the first quarter and 34-19 at the half before getting outscored in each of the final two quarters.

Senior guard Josiah Haliburton had 18 points, five assists, and four rebounds to lead the Titans (7-8) of Sacramento.

Santa Cruz (4-6) plays at Christopher (6-3) in Gilroy on Friday at 6 p.m.

Gonzales 66, St. Francis 53: Senior guard Robert Gomez Jr. scored 17 points, but the Sharks finished in eighth place at the Rancho San Juan Tournament in Salinas on Tuesday.

Gomez was named to the all-tournament team.

Sophomore guard Eddie Torres scored nine points for the Sharks (4-6), who trailed 39-22 at the half. Junior Tahj Ibrahim and senior Jacob Jimenez each scored eight points.

Jorge Uribe scored 18 points to lead the Spartans (4-6). Fernando Deleon-Amador scored 14 points, and Alexander Hernandez made three 3s and scored 11 points.

St. Francis plays at Scotts Valley (3-8) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

At Santa Clara 71, San Lorenzo Valley 41: Ian LeBarre scored 10 points for the Cougars in their nonleague loss Tuesday.

Anton Nite scored nine points for the Cougars (5-7), and Lonan Dickinson and Caelen Alsing each scored eight points.

Aaron Sun made six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points for the Bruins (7-1).

SLV hosts San Jose (0-9) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Girls basketball

Half Moon Bay 56, Santa Cruz 44: Mila Conn and Karolina Espinosa each scored 11 points for the Cardinals in their semifinal loss in the 12th annual Aptos High/Santa Cruz Warriors NorCal Invitational at KP Arena on Tuesday.

Vivian Tate scored all seven of her points in the second half for the Cardinals (7-5).

Senior center Zoey Lemoge scored 24 points to lead the Cougars (7-2).

At Aptos High on Wednesday, Santa Cruz plays Mills (3-3) for third place at 12:30 p.m., HMB faces Saint Francis (10-1) of Mountain View in the championship at 2 p.m.

Westmont 34, Aptos 28: The Mariners came up short in their consolation semifinal loss at the 12th annual Aptos High/Santa Cruz Warriors NorCal Invitational at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Tuesday.

At Aptos High on Wednesday, the Mariners (4-6) host Branham (1-9) in the seventh-place game at 9:30 a.m., and Westmont and Los Altos plays in the consolation championship at 11 a.m.

Murrieta Valley 57, Watsonville 21: The Wildcatz went 0-3 and finished in eighth place in the Opal Division at the 24th annual West Coast Jamboree at Robert Livermore Community Center on Tuesday.

Watsonville (4-5) hosts Rancho San Juan (4-4) on Monday at 2 p.m.

At Pajaro Valley 61, Oak Grove 15: Olivia Contreras scored a team-high 18 points, and the Grizzlies rolled in their nonleague win Tuesday.

Elizabeth Zamora and Karely Alvarado each scored 10 of their 15 points in the first half and helped the Grizzlies (3-5) take a 40-6 lead into the break.

Monique Ayala had eight points and seven assists.

Pajaro Valley plays at Santa Teresa (8-4) in San Jose on Saturday at 2 p.m.

At Harbor 45, Seaside 16: Freshman Velana Lieby had 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead the short-handed Pirates past the winless Spartans on Tuesday.

Harbor had three players out due to illness/conflicts, including two starters.

“I was excited to see the team start the game focused and everyone stepped up their game” said Pirates coach Dan Trebbien.

Freshman Jonah Diaz-Le had nine points and eight assists for Harbor, and junior Gillian Hull added eight points.

Harbor (5-5) hosts MVC (2-9) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Ann Sobrato 48, at St. Francis 38: Sophomore Liliana Whitmeyer scored 22 points and pulled down five rebounds, but the Sharks dropped their finale at the Lady Shark Shootout on Tuesday.

Senior Julie Lopez added seven points for the Sharks (4-6), who finished 0-3 at the four-team round-robin tournament.

St. Francis plays at Everett Alvarez (2-6) in Salinas on Monday at 7 p.m.

Girls soccer

At Watsonville 3, Rancho San Juan 0: Jackie Cano scored twice, and the Wildcatz snapped their two-game losing skid in nonleague action Tuesday night.

Aubrey Vargas also scored for the Wildcatz (3-2-0), who posted their second shutout of the season.

Goalie Crystal Mejia made four saves for the Wildcatz.

The Trailblazers (7-2-0) were shut out for the second time and saw their five-match win streak come to a close.

Watsonville hosts Carmel (4-2-0) on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.

Patrick Henry 5, Aptos 1: Junior Isabella Hartnett scored in the 11th minute on an assist from Aubrie Ford, but the Mariners lost in the Showcase Division semifinals at the SoCal Classic at SoCal Sports Complex in Oceanside on Tuesday.

Senior Annabel Grentz, a Cal Poly Humboldt commit, scored three goals for the Patriots (4-2-0) of San Diego. Senior Breanna Ivie had a goal and an assist, and junior Emma Cunningham also scored.

Goalie Tayanna Bonilla made four saves for the Mariners (4-3-1).

Aptos faces St. Ignatius (3-2-0) of San Francisco for third place at SoCal Sports Complex on Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Boys soccer

St. Ignatius 3, Watsonville 0: The Wildcatz were shut out in the Showcase National Division semifinals at SoCal Classic at SoCal Sports Complex in Oceanside on Tuesday.

Watsonville (3-1-1) plays Birmingham (8-3-2) of Lake Balboa for third place at SoCal Sports Complex on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Women’s basketball

At Babson 72, UCSC 70: Katie Busch and Emilie Ngo made 3-pointers in the the final 30 seconds to trim the Banana Slugs’ seven-point deficit to one, but the Beavers held on for the win in Babson Park, Massachusetts, on Tuesday.

Rylie Rosenberg made one of two free throws with 11 seconds left for the Beavers in the Judy Pearson ‘85 Memorial Tournament finale.

UCSC’s Alyssa Jackson missed a 3 with two seconds left, and teammate Danielle Tyner’s put-back attempt didn’t fall as time expired.

Ngo led UCSC (8-8) with 19 points, six assists, four steals, and three rebounds. Busch scored 14 points, Sarah Reuter had 11 points and five assists, and Tyner had 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Emily Flynn had 19 points and five rebounds to lead the Beavers (7-4).
