BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — An Upland man was sentenced to a life term in prison Thursday for a deadly high-speed chase that stretched from Barstow to Tehachapi, ending with a head-on collision on Highway 58 that killed a Tehachapi woman.

Manuel Vincent Gutierrez, 54, received a total of 75 years to life, plus 25 years to life, plus 29 years.

He was found guilty in September of charges including first-degree murder.

On the night of June 6, 2021, Gutierrez acted strangely and showed a couple people a gun, witnesses said.

Police arrived at his location outside a Walmart in Barstow and Gutierrez sped away in a Chevy Tahoe. A lengthy chase ensued that was eventually taken over by California Highway Patrol.

It lasted until 11:11 p.m., when the Chevy, which had been traveling in the opposite direction, crashed into a Nissan Murano on Highway 58 East of Broome Road, according to CHP.

Sheree Lee Fishgold, a passenger in the Nissan, died in the crash. Another occupant in the Nissan suffered serious injuries.
